Deaf Support Teaching Assistant – Specialist School in Gateshead

A specialist school in Gateshead is seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Deaf Support Teaching Assistant to join their team from September on a full-time basis.

The school is committed to ensuring that pupils with hearing impairments have equal access to education and are fully included in all aspects of school life.

 

Your role will include

  • Supporting deaf pupils during lessons and school activities

  • Using British Sign Language to aid communication and learning

  • Assisting with classroom tasks and educational resources

  • Encouraging pupils' independence and self-esteem

  • Working closely with teaching staff and external specialists

  • Tracking and reporting pupil progress

 

We're looking for someone who has

  • BSL Level 2 qualification or relevant practical experience

  • Experience working with children or young people (preferred)

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • A patient, understanding and supportive nature

  • A strong commitment to inclusive education

  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply
